About Me

Richard Thewlis
Norfolk, United Kingdom
This is a blog of my impressions of nature, mainly birds, which I started in 2011. I like to record observations in the form of sketches, and paintings too, if I have time. The field sketches are just that, an expression of what I've seen in the field. I try to record of what I've seen as I’ve seen it, rather than to make a perfect finished image. So there's quite a lot of unfinished pictures on here where the bird has flown off, and pictures that aren't quite right too. Although lots of pictures go wrong, mistakes are important, as they are the things you learn from. Drawing from life is the best way to understand the subject and to get a feel for what it really looks like. There's more finished work in the galleries on the title bar above.
